This weekend's races are a little different this week, especially for top NASCAR series as they go "road-racing" instead of ovals.
NASCAR SPRINT CUP
The Sprint Cup series travels to Sonoma, CA at the Infineon Raceway where the 43 drivers will tackle the 11-turn circuit. This road-course features lots of turns, elevation changes and they will have to conduct a lot of shifting and braking on the cars. It's always a fun, challenging race to watch. Last year, Robby Gordon stalled out on the uphill portion of the course during a late-caution which caused winner Jimmie Johnson to pass him and take his first-checkered flag on a road course. This year, R. Gordon could have his revenge, but he will have to take on road-course specialists like Boris Said and Andy Lally, and regular-series drivers like Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Juan Pablo Montoya for a victory. I'm taking Stewart to get out of his season-slump this weekend.
NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES
The NASCAR Nationwide Series also will race on a road-course, nearly 2,000 miles away from Sonoma at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The series returns there for the second year in a row at the 4-mile course. Even though it's 50 laps, the race is 200 miles long. Road-course specialists Ron Fellows and Andrew Ranger are among the drivers competing to steal a win from regular drivers Elliott Sadler, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., and Justin Allgaier. I'm gonna take Carl Edwards, who is also competing in this event.
IZOD INDYCAR SERIES
The IndyCar Series will be racing for the 3rd weekend of the row. After an exciting Milwaukee finish which gave Dario Franchitti a win, the drivers are back out racing, this time at Rusty Wallace-owned Iowa Speedway. The .875 mile track will feature 250 laps run on the course. I'm taking Tony Kanaan to overcome his crash last week and give KV Racing it's first win in the series.
