Food City 500 Recap

Got a few thoughts from yesterday's unusual Bristol NASCAR race.

1) The crowd attendance at Bristol Motor Speedway was down and definitely was noticeable throughout the entire race. The crowds were estimated to be over 102,000 but through the cameras looked like there were 65K. Honestly, it's one of the best races of the season, always an action-packed track, but it would've been nice to see the place full.

2) The racing proved to be dull in my opinion. Normally at Bristol, where would be a lot of beating-and-banging throughout the 500 lap race. Instead, the only big action happened at Lap 23 when Kasey Kahne made contact with the 99 of Carl Edwards, sent a chain reaction with Marcos Ambrose, Kevin Harvick & Kyle Busch. Other than that, the 4 other cautions in yesterday's race were single car incidents.

3) Brad Keselowski was the dominant driver in yesterday's race, leading 232 laps. He was unstoppable in the last 100 laps, even though Matt Kenseth tried several times to pass him, but settled for a 2nd place finish. I did pick Kyle Busch to win, but it looks like Keselowski will be the new king of Bristol.

4) Speaking of Kasey Kahne, he's had alot of bad luck in his first 4 races with Hendrick Motorsports. So far, he's been in 3 crashes and 0 top-15 finishes. Right now, he sits 37th in points and if he wants to compete for a possible championship, he needs to improve alot better and try to avoid the wrecks. He's a talented driver, but needs to step it up.


With the ranting being said, the NASCAR Cup & Nationwide series moves back out west to Fontana, California for an exciting showdown at the 2-mile Auto Club Speedway, taking place next Weekend. Should be exciting 300 and 400 mile races on tap.
