Rolex 24 Brief Recap (Prototype Class only)

In what was a historic 24 hour race at Daytona happened last weekend.  Lot of battles on the track in all 4 classes of racing.  Action Express Racing Car #5 which featured Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi & Sebastien Bourdais won the race by only a second and a half over Wayne Taylor Racing Car #10 (which featured Max Angelelli as well as Ricky, Jordan & Wayne Taylor).  The other Action Express Racing team, Car #9 finished 3rd.  This was Action Express' 2nd Rolex 24 win in the last 5 years.  All of the top-3 finishes were Corvettes, which dominated the entire event and that includes practices & qualifying.

There were many storylines in the race, including a scary crash involving the Gainsco/Bob Stallings Car #99 machine and a Ferrari machine, car #62 nearly 3 hours into the race, sending bob drivers occuped in their vehicles to Halifax Medical Center.  The strong favorites in the race: Target Chip Ganassi Racing saw mechanical failures to both cars.  Nearly 10 hours into the race, Scott Pruett, driving the 01 car wound up behind the garage for nearly 45 minutes to fix a mechanical issue, then retiring the race with a few hours remaining.  Car 02, driven mostly by Scott Dixon & Tony Kanaan was in contention until the last 2 hours when they wound up behind the wall due to engine issues.
