On a road course, anything can happen. It could be different pit strategies, among other things and that is what we witnessed last Sunday at Sonoma Raceway. A race that featured numerous wrecks involving Martin Truex, Jr. and Carl Edwards (both won in 2015), ended with an exciting finish. Kyle Busch, who broke his leg during a Xfinity Series race at Daytona back in February, went on a different pit strategy to win his 1st Cup race in over a year, beating out his brother Kurt and Clint Bowyer. However, he is 137 points outside the Top-30, which he would need to secure a Chase berth. Since he missed the first 11 races, NASCAR gave Kyle Busch a Chase waiver if he wins and points. 9 races to the Chase, a lot more can happen, beginning Sunday night under the lights back at Daytona.
INDYCAR
The IndyCar series took their new aero package involving "pack racing" to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA where the racing was so tight all race long, questions of crashes were going to occur, and it did. This race featured a record-high 80 lead changes in the series because the racing was so tight throughout the 500-mile event. Helio Castroneves, Will Power, Takuma Sato, Ryan Briscoe, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Ed Carpenter and Josef Newgarden were involved in different wrecks throughout the race. The drivers did not like the pack racing at all, citing possible disaster, but the fans differ, saying they enjoyed the race. In the end, Graham Rahal, who hasn't won since the 2008 St. Pete race, claimed victory over Tony Kanaan, ending a 124-race winless drought. The series resumes July 12th at the Milwaukee Mile.
