With the exciting Darlington race that we witnessed last Sunday night, which included a record 18-cautions at the track, plus the down-force & softer tire package which provided great racing all night, it all leads to 1 race to the Chase: Richmond.
There are 11 drivers that clinched a Chase spot, including all 4 Joe Gibbs Racing drivers, 2 Stewart-Haas drivers (Kevin Harvick & Kurt Busch), 2 Hendrick drivers (Jimmie Johnson & Dale Earnhardt, Jr.), both Penske drivers and Martin Truex, Jr., leaving 5 spots open. However, Jamie McMurray will automatically be locked in once he takes the start, so we'll have 4 spots. 2 choices: points or win the race. That is what 17 drivers can do, however only 4 of them could clinch a spot in the Chase via points: Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, Clint Bowyer & Paul Menard. However, if those drivers crash out and receive poor finishes, look out for Kyle Larson, Kasey Kahne & Greg Biffle who are on the outside of the top-16. In reality, win and in. This is a playoff race. 400 laps Saturday night on a short track will determine who will race for the championship. This will be the theme during the race, so it's an all-out battle to see who's in and who's out.
