Well, I had a nice holiday season. Weather was warmer than normal and everything went by quick. Just in about 2 weeks, the official racing season will commence. Next week, I'll provide my annual Rolex 24 at Daytona preview, but for now, I'll share what I thought were the 5 best races of the year, in any event.
5) 2015 Rolex 24- The twice around the clock event in Daytona Beach just keeps getting better and better each year. The 2015 race was no exemption as throughout the event, it was a constant battle between Ganassi Racing, Action Express Racing & Wayne Taylor Racing for the overall title. In the end, it was the quartet of NASCAR & IndyCar drivers for Ganassi Racing (Scott Dixon/Tony Kanaan/Jamie McMurray/Kyle Larson) grabbing the win.
4) Ford 400- Very hard to determine where this race would end up. It was Jeff Gordon's final race in NASCAR, but his chance at a 4th title faded quickly with mechanical issues all race long. Kyle Busch ended up with the win and the championship.
3) MAVTV 500- The "pack racing" throughout the 500-mile IndyCar race in Fontana, CA definitely was exciting, but a last-lap wreck involving drivers such as Ryan Briscoe & Juan Pablo Montoya definitely questioned the leagues decision for close racing. Graham Rahal won the event.
2) Indy 500- Exciting race throughout. Juan Pablo Montoya's lead on the closing laps sealed the deal for his 2nd win at the historic track.
1) Martinsville Fall Race- Even though the race was dominated by Penske Racing, it was Matt Kenseth who slammed into Joey Logano, ruining both drivers championship hopes. However, it gave Jeff Gordon his 93rd career Cup win, making it his final time in victory lane.
