Dover Recap

NASCAR
After Brad Keselowski won a wreck-filled Talladega race, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series went to Kansas, where Kyle Busch picked up his 3rd win of the season, then last weekend, goes to Dover International Speedway.  All weekend, there were crashes throughout practices and eventually the race.  The 1st quarter of the race was dominated by Kevin Harvick, but incidents involving Regan Smith & Matt DiBenedetto (2 separate yellows) changed pit strategy.  From then on, there were a lot of lead changes and exciting passes until the "big one" happened on Lap 355.  This wreck was started by Jimmie Johnson not being able to speed up, causing a wreck of nearly 20 cars (including KyBusch, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Danica Patrick and more).  After the race restarted, leader Carl Edwards was spun out by eventual 2nd place finisher Kyle Larson.  This set up a duel between Larson and race-winner Matt Kenseth for the last 30 laps.  In the end, it was another Gibbs driver who wins and now all 4 drivers have earned Chase spots starting in September.

With the All-Star race happening this weekend, the series resumes the following weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600.


INDYCAR
Simon Pagenaud is definitely having a career year in the Verizon IndyCar Series.  After dominating at Long Beach & Barber, he started on pole at the road-course of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, going on to dominate the Indy GP and seeing his 3rd victory of the season, 2nd at IMS.  Now, practices are underway for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, taking place May 29th.


FORMULA ONE
Something we would never see happened last Sunday at the Spanish GP in Barcelona: both Mercedes drivers wrecking each other on lap 1.  Lewis Hamilton got into Nico Rosberg, wrecking both cars just in the 4th turn of lap 1, causing both drivers to DNF and sets up an unpredictable race.  With both Silver Arrows out, it was all eyes on Ferrari & Red Bull.  All 4 drivers did lead laps, but it was the surprising win of Max Verstappen, who just transferred to Red Bull from Toro Rosso (in which demoted Daniil Kvyat) took the checkered flag, at age 18, to get his first career victory in Formula One.  The perfect season for Mercedes has ended, but can look to bounce back in Monaco on May 29th,
