Champions are crowned once again, and that took place Sunday when Jimmie Johnson won his 6th NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. The point battle really wasn't much of a factor as Johnson was able to hold up Matt Kenseth & Kevin Harvick for having any chance at contending. Kenseth did start on the pole at Homestead, led the most laps and finished 2nd, but wasn't enough as Johnson finished 9th. There was alot of action up front as Kenseth and teammate Denny Hamlin dominated the event, with the latter winning his 1st and only race of the season. Johnson's championship now looks to be one of the elite in sports, only 1 championship shy of Richard Petty & Dale Earnhardt, and who knows how many more titles can he win in his career.
The 2013 season was what had been expected all season long, a 2 car race between Johnson and Kenseth, who combined to win 13 of 36 events. There was some controversy with Michael Waltrip Racing of the events in the fall Richmond race, and there was technical issues involving Keselowski and that happened early on in '13. There were plenty of exciting races, and as we move into the transition year, 2014 will even be better.
As we look towards 2014, there will be alot of driver moves as Kurt Busch & Kevin Harvick join Stewart-Haas Racing. After missing half the season due to injury, Tony Stewart hopes to return back to normal form in 2014. Ryan Newman leaves SHR to drive for Childress, joining rookie Austin Dillon (who won the 2013 Nationwide title) and Paul Menard. Juan Pablo Montoya leaves NASCAR to go back into IndyCar racing, driving for Roger Penske. Kyle Larson and Michael Annett move up to Cup and with Dillon, could provide an exciting rookie season campaign for all 3 drivers.
