NASCAR Chase for the Championship: 2 Races to Go

With 2 races remaining in the 2013 Chase for the Sprint Cup, it's starting to look like a 2 car battle for the championship: Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth.  Coming into the race yesterday at Texas Motor Speedway, both Kenseth & Johnson were tied atop the standings and if the chase ended before the race, Kenseth would win the championship due to more wins this season.

Yesterday, wasn't the case as Johnson dominated the race, leading 255 of the 334 laps ran during the race, mirroring Kenseth every step of the way, preventing him from leading laps as well as altering pit strategy.  The race however, eliminated any hopes of Martinsville race winner Jeff Gordon from winning a championship after crashing into the inside wall early in the event, finishing 38th.  Kyle Busch also had an incident, but finished in 13th place, now 4th in points.  Johnson won the event, Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished 2nd, Joey Logano 3rd, Kenseth 4th and Kasey Kahne 5th.

Speaking of points, with 2 races to go, Johnson leads the points standings by 7 over Kenseth, 40 over Kevin Harvick and 52 over Kyle Busch.  Harvick and Kyle Busch are long shots for the title, because like in 2011, both Kenseth & Johnson will mirror each other the last 2 races and will be a nail-biter come Homestead.

NATIONWIDE SERIES
There is also a very close points battle in the Nationwide series and that is between Austin Dillon who leads by 6 points over Sam Hornish, Jr.  The 2-time IndyCar series champion in Hornish does not have a secure ride for 2014 and winning a championship could help.  Penske Racing right now does not have full sponsor ship for Hornish so winning can be a plus.  Brad Keselowski led 106 of 200 laps en route to winning at Texas, while Hornish finished 3rd and Dillon 5th.  2 Races to go, anything can happen.

FORMULA ONE
With the championship already locked up in India, Sebastien Vettel keeps racking up the wins, now has 7 straight Grand Prix titles, led every lap at the twilight race in Abu Dhabi.  The battle for 2nd spot continues to heat up between Fernando Alonso & Lewis Hamilton.  Kimi Raikkonen was involved in a collision on the first lap, so he looks to finish 3rd or 4th in the standings with 2 races left.  They next travel to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas come November 17th.
