The first half of the NASCAR season is now complete, as the teams and drivers are on a summer break with racing resuming July 27th in Indianapolis. The 1st half came to a close by a dominating effort by Brad Keselowski, who swept the weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Keselowski's win and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. both automatically clinch playoff spots in this year's Chase. The NH race was ok, but Jimmie Johnson's tire issue led to an early exit in the race. Good news for Johnson is that he will make the Chase with the 3 wins he has. So far, there has been 11 different winners in 19 races and only 7 races remaining to the Chase, don't be surprised if Matt Kenseth or Clint Bowyer win a race here or there.
INDYCAR
After Juan Pablo Montoya took the checkered flag in Pocono, the IndyCar series went to the short-track Iowa Speedway. Tony Kanaan (who also led most laps in Pocono), dominated the race, leading 247 of 300 laps. Problem is that a late yellow involving Ed Carpenter and Montoya changed pit strategy. Kanaan and Scott Dixon stayed out while Ryan Hunter-Reay & Josef Newgarden went to pit road for new tires. Hunter-Reay's strategy payed off as he took his 2nd win of the season. With NASCAR off this weekend, IndyCar goes north for the final double-header of the season in Toronto.
